Hello, I'm Edwin. You need a lamp — just say which room it is for and what you do in there, and we can work through it together.

Choosing a lamp: the job before the shape

Light has three separate jobs — ambient, task and mood — and one fitting rarely does more than one of them well. Naming the job first gets you to a lamp that works in the room faster. Edwin is an AI advisor and works in that order.

  • Lumens describe brightness, watts only consumption. With LED, the wattage says almost nothing about how much light you get.
  • Colour temperature in kelvin decides the effect: warm values settle a room, cool ones wake it up. In living spaces, warm is almost always right.
  • Glare comes from a visible light source in your line of sight — a shade or a deep baffle solves that, not less brightness.
  • Dimmability has to match both the bulb and the dimmer; not every LED dims, and not every dimmer handles every LED.

How many lumens does a room need?

It depends on room size, wall colour and the job. As a line: work surfaces need considerably more than living areas, and dark walls swallow a substantial share of the light.

Warm or cool white?

Warm white for rooms where you wind down; neutral to cool where you concentrate. Mixing both in one room reads as restless.
