AI transparency

Edwin is an AI

When you ask a question on theButler.network, you are not talking to a human. Edwin is an AI assistant that interprets your request, selects from our product catalogue and writes the reply.

We state this here because we must — Article 50(1) of the EU AI Act has required it since 2 August 2026, and several US states require it too — and because it is the basis for reading the answers correctly.

Where AI is involved

Area What the AI does
Chat with Edwin Understands your request, selects products, writes the reply
Selection and ordering Judges which products best match your request
Product pages Writes descriptions, pros and cons, summaries and assessments
Labels Assigns assessments such as "Edwin's Choice" or "Price Pick"
Product questions Answers detail questions on product pages

Where AI is not involved

Area Where the data comes from
Prices Directly from retailers' data feeds and interfaces. Prices are never estimated, guessed or generated. If a retailer supplies no price, we say so
Availability Likewise from the feeds
Retailer names and links From the partner networks
Product images From the retailers

This separation matters to us. A language model that invents prices would be, in a price comparison service, the one kind of error you cannot have.

What this means for you

AI systems make mistakes. They can confuse product attributes, blend details from similar models, or state specifics that are not accurate. It does not happen on every answer, but it happens.

So:

  • Verify purchase-critical attributes with the retailer or manufacturer — dimensions, compatibility, technical data, what's in the box.
  • Treat assessments as a starting point, not a conclusion. They are meant to do the shortlisting, not the deciding.
  • Our labels are not test results. We conduct no product testing of our own and do not present third-party test verdicts as ours.

Which models we use

We use language models from OpenAI through their API. We do not operate our own models and we do not train models.

Your queries are not used to train AI models — not by us and not by OpenAI. What happens to your data is set out in our Privacy Policy.

How AI-generated content is marked

  • In chat: the label "Edwin · AI assistant" is permanently visible.
  • On product pages: a notice marks machine-generated sections.
  • Technically: generated pages carry machine-readable marking so that other systems can recognise them as such.

Automated processing

Product selection and ordering are automated. No automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR takes place — a product recommendation produces no legal effects and does not similarly significantly affect you.

We explain which factors determine ordering in How recommendations work.

What Edwin does not do

  • Edwin does not sell anything. He cannot order, pay or ship.
  • Edwin does not give legal, tax, financial or medical advice.
  • Edwin does not know your order status. Order questions are for the retailer.
  • Edwin does not profile you as a person. We build no credit, personality or risk profiles. What we store is up to four product preferences, which you can view and delete in Settings. See the Privacy Policy.

If something is wrong

If you spot an incorrect product detail, an unsuitable recommendation or misleading wording, email us at contact@thebutler.network. We will look into it and fix it.

That is not a formality — user reports are the most effective way of finding AI errors we have missed.

Regulatory basis

This notice fulfils the transparency obligations under Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (EU AI Act) as amended by Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, applicable since 2 August 2026.

In our assessment the systems we deploy are not high-risk AI systems within the meaning of Annex III of that Regulation: product recommendation does not fall within any of the areas exhaustively listed there.

If you would like to know whether you are interacting with an AI at any point, you may ask — and we will tell you. That is also a requirement in several US states.
